Gheorghe Ciobanu, painter of the Romanian village

Russian ZiD factory chainsaw, model 1992, the famous "Druzhba"

Gheorghe Ciobanu is one of the main painters of the Romanian village. It belongs to the new naive courant which is going thru a renaissance.

Being from a family of poor romanian peasants, he remained close of the world surrounding him and captured important life scenes: folk weddings and parties, important agricultural works, unusual events and such. Retired after a life's work as a professional military still lives in his home village, Baltati, from Moldavia and besides painting has a common peasant life.

He paints sitting on his knees, like praying in the painters-monks tradition. Besides this you can find touches of humor and fun. After all, he paints most of his neighbours and life as it is.

I'll leave you to discover and admire his art.
